Shouldn’t we be proud of Epicurus and Lucretius?
They were Greek and Roman philosophers who agreed with Democritus’ theory that the universe was made of material composed of very tiny particles that couldn’t be seen or destroyed. They taught that the world is not regulated by divine providence. They also spoke of beauty and pleasure as we do but were slandered by religious leaders centuries later because of their admiration for pleasure.
Isn’t pleasure what we all seek?
They were among those early philosophers who made the case for nature without divine intervention. They taught that there was no afterlife. These early philosophers laid the foundation for doing away with magical thinking.
Is it that they are heroes and not lechers as some would have us believe?
